Toyota has distinguished itself for safety yet again. The 2017 Toyota Highlander has earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) Top Safety Pick+ award. To make this award even more impressive, most Top Safety Pick+ winners require available equipment to meet the front crash prevention and headlight criteria, but not the 2017 Highlander--it qualifies with just its standard equipment.

The IIHS evaluates vehicles based on their available safety features, as well as how they perform in a number of crash tests, specifically: small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints. To achieve the rank of Top Safety Pick+, vehicles must earn a "good" rating in all five crash tests, as well as an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and an acceptable or good headlight rating.

Of course, the Highlander isn't the only Toyota vehicle to take home the TSP+ award. In fact, it's the 10th 2017 TSP+ award for Toyota/Lexus, demonstrating the automaker's commitment to creating incredibly safe vehicles for your and your family.
